The T-Shaped Partner is not a new concept.
- The vertical bar on the letter T is the deep subject matter expertise where the Partner is recognized for adding value in their area of expertise.
- The horizontal bar on the letter T is the business acumen where the Partner is recognized for providing strategic advice across a wide range of disciplines.
Most Partners cultivate both the vertical and the horizontal. They have the deep expertise as well as the broader advisory skills. They wouldn’t be Partners if they didn’t have both skillsets!
However successful partners know that they can’t be all things to all clients! … They make a conscious decision to be more expert or more advisor to each of their clients.
